Oulton Park 26th April Wirral 100
With wanting some more time on the zx10r we decided to race with Wirral 100 at Oulton Park. With the track being local(ish) we decided to leave home the morning of the race day. The alarm was set for 4.30am for the 2hr15min trip to the track.
Once we get there it’s time to get the bike through technical inspection and noise testing, which it’s passed with no problems. Then it’s back to the awning to put the tyre warmers on and get ready for practice heat 1.
Practise Heat 1:- It was a wet start to the day so I went out on track with Full wet tyres on. As we’d made a lot of changes to the bike from the last time I rode it I needed to get used to it again, but it was a timed session so I had to push on and with a 1.58s lap I was 5th fastest.
Powerbikes Heat 1:- With the track dry now it was time to change to the dry tyres. As I was 5th fastest in practice, I started this race from 5th in the middle of row 2. It was a bit of a boring race as I got boxed in at the first corner and by the end I was 7 seconds behind 7th and 18 seconds ahead of 9th with me finishing in 8th.
Powerbikes Final: – With a shower of rain 20min before the start of the race it was a gamble on tyres. With a drying track we went for a wet front dry rear. With a good start and going off with the lead pack it was a race long 6 way battle with me finishing 6th after the 5 lap race.
IFMmoto.com Senior: – The track bone dry now we went out on dry tyres and starting from 9th on the grid I was looking forward to this race. Again with a good start I was away with the lead pack. With the race going well until lap 3 when I out braked myself going in to Hizzy’s chicane. By doing that I lost the tow off the lead pack so I settled for a solid 6th finish.
All in all I’m happy with what we did today as a lot was learnt with the mix conditions. A big thanks goes to Neil (NP Motorcycles) for all his help in the paddock changing wheels and prepping the bike for all the races and also to Colin Leeder (100% suspension) for his advice over the phone. And another thanks goes to all of my sponsors for their help, Mike Davies Tools, Phil Morris Racing, Tim Gittoes, Crossing Garage, Morris Oils, The Racefit Programme, NFmoto Leathers, 100% suspension, Hel Brake Lines, Meltedsliders.
We’re out next at Cadwell Park on the 10th-11th May with NG Roadracing, hope to see you there.
